Red sandal wood

Scientific name of Red Sandal wood: Pterocarpus santalinus Linn.f

Name of Red Sandal wood in different languages:-

Sanskrit: Raktacandana

Hindi: Lal Chandan

Malayalam: Rakthachandanam രക്തചന്ദനം

Plant description:

It is a small tree, deciduous, commonly in tropical regions, grow up to 8 m tall and trunk up to 150 cm diameter, fast-growing, leaves are alternately arranged, up to 9 cm long, tri-foliate, flowers are found in racemes and fruit is a pod, up to 9 cm long and containing one or two seeds inside.

Medicinal uses:

Red sandalwood has antiseptic properties so it is useful to treat acne and sores, it is also used as  the herbal cosmetic to avoid scars from faces.
