Indian Pennywort

Scientific names: Ipomea Reniformis / Centella Asiatica

Name of Indian Pennywort in different languages:

 English: Centella, Gotukola, Mouse ear wort

 Sanskrit: मण्डूकपर्णी (mandukaparni) means Rat’s ear.

 Hindi: Brahmi booti

 Malayalam: മുത്തിൾ -muththil, Kudangal-കുടങ്ങൽ, Mandookaparni- മണ്ഡൂകപർണി    

Plant description:

Centella asiatica or Indian pennywort is a slender, herbaceous, perennial creeper, grows in tropical wet areas. The leaves are pale green, kidney shaped or round, smooth and long-stalked, glabrous, around 2 to 5 cm in diameter, the  stems are slender, green to brownish-green in color, flowers are small and white or pinkish in color, born in small, rounded umbels, below 3 mm in size.

Medicinal uses:

It is used in the treatments of  hepatitis B, hemorrhoids, varicose veins, Skin disorders, urological disorders, to increase memory power, intelligent, it can control Vata disorders,  relive in gastric ulcers, phlebitis

Chemical content:

Pentacyclic Triterpenoids, Asiaticoside, Brahmoside, Acetic Acid.

How to prepare medicine:

It can consume as a curry.

Collect leaves and slice in to small pieces and add some shallot,mix together and  pour some lemon juice on it  and keep it for 10 minutes and consume, it is capable to increase HB level
