Indian Olibanum

Scientific name of Indian Olibanum: Boswellia serrata/ Olibanum Indicum

Name of  Indian Olibanum in different languages:-

English: Indian frankincense

Hindi: Salai

Sanskrit:गुग्गुल guggula, हस्तिनशना hastinashana, पार्वती parvati, कुरुन्द kurunda, शल्लकी shallaki

Tamil: குமஞ்சம் kumancam, குங்கிலியம் kunkiliyam, மரத்துவெள்ளை marattu-vellai

Malayalam: Kunthirikkam-കുന്തിരിക്കം,  Kungilliam-കുങ്ങില്യം

Plant description:

It is a deciduous tree commonly in on dry hills, slopes areas, medium sized tree, up to 5 m tall, barkis ash colored and papery. The leaves are arranged alternately, pinnate, clustered at the branches apex, up to 40 cm long, 8 to 15 pairs of leaflets, up to 6 cm long. Leaflets ovate, toothed margin. Flowers are white or creamy, tiny, 8 mm across, borne in leaf axils. Fruits are berries, about 2 cm long, three-cornered.
