Shiral

Scientific name of Shiral: Grewia nervosac 

Name of Shiral in different languages

English: Microcos, Panicled Indian linden

Malayalam: Kottakka, കൊട്ടയ്ക്ക, kanalikka കണലി കാ, Cherikkotta, Chakirippazham

Tamil: தடம் tatam, விசாலம் visalam

Hindi: Shiral-शिरल

Plant description:

It  is a small tree or large shrub of Western Ghats, , semi-evergreen forests and erect, grows to 4- 5 feet, leaves are 6 to 18 cm long and 3 to 5.5 cm wide, elliptic, or ovate-lanceolate, tapered at end, hairy. Flowers are borne in clusters in leaf axils and terminal panicles, five petals, ovate, yellow in color, 2 to 3.5 mm long. Seeds are found in clusters, globose, purple color when ripe.
