Scientific name of Toothbrush tree.: Salvadora Persica

Sanskrit: गुडफल gudaphala, पिलु pilu,  Peelu

Hindi: मेस्वाक meswak, पिलु पीलू Peelu

Plant Description

Salvadora persica or Indian toothbrush tree is a multi-branched, erect  evergreen  shrub or small tree grow at the  height of 3 m. ,leaves are green, fleshy and 3.8 cm  to 6.3 cm  long and  2 to 3.2 cm wide in size, bark is whitish green  and cracked,  elliptic, The flowers are greenish yellow in color, terminal panicles  sized 5 to 12.5 cm long, numerous clusters in the upper axils.

Salvadora indica or Toothbrush tree is commonly used to treat menstrual disorders, cough, asthma, rheumatism, piles, fever, cough, wound, scurvy, etc. and used as antiseptics, astringent, detergents

Alkaloids like trimethylamine; salvadorine, chlorides,  terpenes, glycosides; tannins, flavonoids, saponins, and sterols.
